Welcome to the State Route (SR) 179 Project Weekly Construction Update - your electronic connection to the SR 179 Project with the most current information on construction plans and activities.

Please note: Changes to construction plans can happen frequently due to weather, equipment availability and personnel issues. We try to anticipate construction activities a week in advance but changes may occur. Intermittent lane closures, with short delays, may not always be known in advance.

Early in the Thanksgiving holiday weekend, traffic backed up on the northbound section of SR 179 entering the Village of Oak Creek. Flaggers were located at the Jacks Canyon intersection and the back-up was resolved. We want to thank the community for alerting us to any such issues. Weekend traffic patterns are noted and ADOT will have people on site seven days a week to ensure that traffic flows smoothly before there are any problems. Please note: when there are flaggers in the intersections, their direction overrides the traffic signals.

What to watch for, week of December 4:

SR179 Construction

Continuing Work:

  • Jacks Canyon Road will be closed between SR 179 and Cortez with underground pipe work in that area.  Traffic is detoured with signs to use Cortez as an alternate.  Jacks Canyon is anticipated to be reopened the second week in December.
  • Storm drain work will continue at Back O Beyond, where traffic has shifted to the west side of the road. Temporary concrete barrier is installed to help traffic flow. There may be intermittent lane closures with flaggers/DPS present.
  • Work for new bridge construction in the forest segment is ongoing near milepost 309.5, and there may be lane closures of short durations with flaggers/DPS present.  The HT Trail will be closed until Spring 2007. Advance notice will be provided upon the reopening.
  • Construction of a retaining wall is ongoing south of the Village of Oak Creek where traffic has been shifted westward onto temporary pavement. There may be minor traffic impacts such as shoulder closures or construction vehicles needing access to the road, or lane closures of short durations with flaggers/DPS present.
  • Temporary concrete barriers for construction of drainage structures will be placed south of Rojo Drive on Monday, December 4.
  • Plant salvage (no traffic impacts).
  • Surveying (no traffic impacts).
  • Removals of sidewalks, asphalt, curb and gutter, etc. through the Village is ongoing.
