Welcome to the State Route (SR) 179 Project Weekly Construction Update - your electronic connection to the SR 179 Project with the most current information on construction plans and activities.

Please note: Changes to construction plans can happen frequently due to weather, equipment availability and personnel issues. We try to anticipate construction activities a week in advance but changes may occur. Intermittent lane closures, with short delays, may not always be known in advance.

What to watch for, November 20 - December 1:

SR179 Construction

ADOT’s construction team will take a break for the Thanksgiving holiday from Wednesday, November 22 through Sunday, November 26. Crews will be available for emergencies. Access to all businesses, including the Outlet Mall, will be open over the holiday weekend.

Construction of a retaining wall is ongoing south of the Village of Oak Creek where traffic has been shifted westward onto temporary pavement. There may be minor traffic impacts such as shoulder closures or construction vehicles needing access to the road, or lane closures of short durations with flaggers/DPS present.

Temporary concrete barrier will be placed to secure the construction zone between Ridge Trail and Verde Valley School Road starting Monday, November 20th. The work zone will be on the west side of SR 179 near Ridge Trail, and on the east side of SR 179 near Verde Valley School Rd. Removal of sidewalks, asphalt, curb and gutter, etc. will begin in the Village on Monday, November 20th.

Jacks Canyon Road is closed between SR 179 and Cortez with underground pipe work in that area. Traffic is detoured with signs to use Cortez as an alternate. Jacks Canyon is anticipated to be reopened the second week in December. Please note that if you use Canyon Diablo as a way to access Bell Rock Boulevard from Cortez that it is a residential street with many pedestrians and speed limits will be enforced.

Work on an access road for constructing a new bridge in the forest segment is ongoing near milepost 309.5, and there may be lane closures of short durations with flaggers/DPS present. The HT Trail will be closed beginning November 27 until spring 2007. Advance notice will be provided upon the reopening.

Storm drain work will continue at Back O Beyond, where traffic has shifted to the west side of the road. Temporary concrete barrier is installed to help traffic flow. There may be intermittent lane closures with flaggers/DPS present.
