Welcome to the State Route (SR) 179 Project Weekly Construction Update - your electronic connection to the SR 179 Project with the most current information on construction plans and activities.

Please note: Changes to construction plans can happen frequently due to weather, equipment availability and personnel issues. We try to anticipate construction activities a week in advance but changes may occur. Intermittent lane closures, with short delays, may not always be known in advance.

What to Watch for Week of October 22

West Side Driveway Work to Begin in the Village

Crews are preparing the west side of SR 179 through the Village of Oak Creek for concrete work and paving.  The preparations include the removal of culverts (pipes) that previously conveyed storm water, and filling in the ditch along the west side so work on curb and gutter, catch basins, and new driveways can begin.  ADOT representatives met Thursday, October 18 with businesses between Jacks Canyon and Cortez, where work next weed will be focused.

Please watch for blue business access signs.  Access to businesses will be mainained and two-way traffic continues to flow.

SR179 Construction

Back O' Beyond Roundabout is Taking Shape

Crews are building the outer two thirds of the Back O' Beyond Roundabout, preparing for it to begin to function as a roundabout sometime next week.  Currently, two-way traffic is running through what will be the middle of the roundabout.

Crews will build the middle portion of the roundabout at night so traffic impacts can be minimized and to speed up the construction process.  Area residents will be given notice prior to the night work and we thank them in advance for their patience during the short duration of this nght work.

The roundabout is designed and built to be fully able to accommodate large trucks.  The center island will have a "truck apron," the red concrete portion of the inner circle, which allows heavy vehicles to track over the 4" curb and navigate the roundabout.  The 4" curb is tall enough to keep passenger vehicles within the travel lane but short enough to allow large trucks to traverse. It is designed to be driven on by heavy vehicles.
