Please note: Changes to construction plans can happen frequently due to weather, equipment availability and personnel issues. We try to anticipate construction activities a week in advance but changes may occur. Intermittent lane closures, with short delays, may not always be known in advance.

SR179 Construction

Storm drain work north of Bell Rock Boulevard

Crews will work north of Bell Rock Boulevard beginning Monday to install pipes that will carry storm water across SR 179 from the west side into the main underground storm drain recently installed along the east side of SR 179. The work should take about one week, and ADOT representatives are working with the Bike and Bean, Victoriana Christmas Shop, and Bead Heaven to ensure that their businesses remain accessible. ADOT also is coordinating with the Bike and Bean to facilitate their bike rental customers who need to get from the store up to Bell Rock Vista and back.

Paving in the Village of Oak Creek

Crews have begun to apply an aggregate base material, which looks similar to gravel, in areas that are due to be paved soon. Once the material is brought to the area, it is processed/blended using a grading machine. The grader works the material, different sizes of rock, to fit together in an arrangement that will make a good stable base.  Once the base is laid, it is tested for accurate composition and then readied for paving.

The asphalt is applied in two layers that are about 3 inches thick each.  The asphalt also is tested, and when it passes inspection, traffic is allowed on it.

Driveway Work in the Village of Oak Creek

Crews are scheduled to work on the completion of the Ace Hardware, Kokopelli Inn, and Giant driveways.

Coordination With Local Events

ADOT is coordinating closely with the Sedona Miracle Event, scheduled for September 15 and 16, and developing a list of upcoming special events that we want to try and work around as much as possible.  We are committed to work with the community as much as we can to accommodate special events and other concerns.  Please feel free to contact us.  We want to work with you!
