Welcome to the State Route (SR) 179 Project Weekly Construction Update - your electronic connection to the SR 179 Project with the most current information on construction plans and activities.
Please note: Changes to construction plans can happen frequently due to weather, equipment availability and personnel issues. We try to anticipate construction activities a week in advance but changes may occur. Intermittent lane closures, with short delays, may not always be known in advance.
For a complete listing of freeway and highway restrictions across Arizona visit ADOT's Travel Information Site at www.az511.com or call 5-1-1.
What to watch for the week of July 16:

Bell Rock Boulevard to the east has been re-opened. Notification will be given if an additional closure is necessary to complete the work in this area.
Jack's Canyon Road was re-opened on July 3. It will close again for paving later in July. More details will be given as they become available.
Indian Cliffs Road was open for the holiday weekend, but had to be closed for drainage work. Paving is scheduled in this area the week of July 16.
The east side of Cortez will be closed for approximately one week to finish the storm drain work.
Ongoing Work on SR 179
Storm drain work throughout Project 1 is ongoing. Temporary concrete barrier is installed throughout the Village to help traffic flow, and blue business access signs are installed to guide traffic through the
construction zone. There may be minor traffic impacts such as shoulder closures or construction vehicles needing access to the road, or lane closures with flaggers/DPS present.

Storm drain work continues in the Village of Oak Creek. ADOT maintains two-way traffic and business access during construction

Work for new bridge construction in the forest segment is ongoing near milepost 309.5, and there may be short duration flagging operations.
The HT Trail closure will be extended to mid-summer. Information will be provided as it becomes available.

ADOT HOLDING PUBLIC MEETINGS ON I-17 IMPROVEMENT STUDY
The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) is seeking public comments about future improvements to Interstate 17 (I-17) between the State Route 179 (SR 179) interchange near Sedona north to the junction with I-40 at Flagstaff, Arizona.
Two public meetings are scheduled in Munds Park and Flagstaff on July 18, 2007. The same information will be presented at both meetings.
- The meeting in Munds Park will take place from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Pinewood Country Club, 395 Pinewood Blvd., Munds Park, with a brief presentation by ADOT at 3:15.
- The second meeting will be held from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Embassy Suites Hotel, Whispering Pines Room, 706 South Milton Road, Flagstaff, with a brief presentation by ADOT at 6:15.
ADOT and the Federal Highway Administration, as lead federal agency, are initiating an engineering and environmental study to develop a long-range plan for the I-17 corridor beginning at the SR 179 traffic interchange at milepost (MP) 299 and ending at MP 340 near the I-40 traffic interchange. A series of improvements will be developed to provide for greater capacity and to ensure smooth operations for the traffic volumes that are projected to occur over the next 20 to 30 years in the study area.
The purpose of the meetings is to provide an overview of the study area, the study process, and the schedule, and to gather input to assist in the identification of issues and concerns to be addressed during the study.
