New Work
SR 89A Reduced to One Lane Each Direction

Coldwell Banker retaining wall pictured here in progress

Beginning Sunday evening, SR 89A will be reduced to one lane in each direction for approximately one week to allow for a construction zone in the area of Brewer Road near the Coldwell Banker and Burger King. These photos show 89A and the work occurring behind the curb line, which includes placement of electrical wiring for the roundabout lighting, construction of retaining walls, and eventually, the construction of the curb and gutter for the south side of the new Brewer Roundabout.
Brewer Road Closed for Night Work
To facilitate the Brewer roundabout construction mentioned above, Brewer Road will be closed at 89A between the hours of 8 pm and 6 am starting this Sunday, May 11. Local traffic will use Ranger Road, and Brewer will be reopened each morning at 6 am.

Ranger Closed May 16 for City of Sedona Function
On Friday, May 16 Ranger Road will be closed by the City of Sedona from 12:30 to 4:30 pm. This closure is necessary for a special public event celebrating the listing of the Hummingbird House on the National Register of Historic Places. It is located at 100 Brewer Road. Two-way traffic will resume on Ranger Road at 4:30 pm. For information, call Victor Estrada, City of Sedona Public Works Department at (928) 204-7800.
Ongoing Work
Underground Work in Business District
The installation of storm drain, manholes, catch basins, a new gas line, and other underground items is ongoing. Crews will be working in the middle of the road in front of Tlaquepaque for two more weeks on the complex installation of necessary items to convey storm water and run it through a filtering system prior to being allowed into Oak Creek. As always, two way traffic and business access are maintained.
Temporary Pavement and Traffic Shifts South of Canyon
The community will notice that they are driving on temporary pavement while work activities are shifted to the opposite side of the road. This photo shows one such area, between Juniper and Painted Canyon, where the temporary pavement has been striped and is being readied to accept traffic. Work will commence on the other side of the road and include box culvert extensions, retaining walls, and other structures.
Retaining Wall Construction Throughout Corridor
One of the values that was expressed by the Sedona community during the Community Needs Based Implementation Planning Process (2003 and 2004) was to minimize the roadway footprint. This means preserving the homes and businesses that line the State Route. To meet this commitment, ADOT designed a road that fits within the corridor and must be shored up on either side in a number of areas to minimize the loss of land and vegetation. This three-mile project, therefore, includes 20 retaining walls. One such wall, pictured here under construction, is near the Sedona Motel at SR 179 and Ranger Road.
Bridge Construction
Bridge construction is ongoing, and crews continue weekend work to keep pace with the schedule.
Project 1
Ongoing Work
Paving South of Village
Pending material availability and weather, paving should be completed this week south of the Village.
Punch List Items in the Village
Crews will be in the Village doing cleanup work.
Northbound Alignment Reconstruction and Tree Salvage
This photo shows the box culvert at Templeton Trail. This culvert allows for storm water conveyance under the roadway, and for trail users to cross beneath the road. Construction of the new alignment continues, along with tree salvage within the National Forest.

Please note: Changes to construction plans can happen frequently due to weather, equipment availability and personnel issues. We try to anticipate construction activities a week in advance but changes may occur. Intermittent lane closures, with short delays, may not always be known in advance.
