All roundabouts operational

All five roundabouts in Project 1 are now operational. The last one, at Bell Rock Boulevard in the Village of Oak Creek, was completed in less than two weeks. Crews are finalizing the roundabout signage and the curb and gutter work around the roundabouts. There will be no more long-term detours off of SR 179 in the Village.

Paving and driveways to be completed

If the rain stops and crews have a week of dry weather, all paving and driveways will be completed in the Village this week. Curb and gutter on the outside edges of the road are completed and work will focus on the curb and gutters of the medians.

Project 2

Work to Begin on New Post Office Driveway

Crews are beginning work on a new driveway for the main Sedona post office that is located at Brewer Road and SR 89A.  This must be completed so the new roundabout at Brewer Road and SR 89A can be built. Post office circulation will not be affected at this time. The short road from the post office parking lot to the Hyatt will remain open to help facilitate left-hand turns at the Y.

Vegetation Removal between Chapel and Mallard

Construction crews have begun vegetation removal and clearing on the west side of SR 179 between Chapel Road and Mallard for work on utilities and the storm drainage system in this area.  The new roadway, with all of the new amenities like curb and gutter, shoulders, medians, etc., will be approximately twice as wide as the existing road.

Construction Communications

Tune in to KAZM AM 780 at 9:45 a.m. on Tuesday, February 26, to hear the latest on the SR 179 construction. The show will be repeated at 12:15 p.m.

ADOT hosts Construction Chat on the first Thursday of each month from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. at the SR 179 Project Office in Bell Rock Plaza. The next Construction Chat will be Thursday, March 6.

Please note: Changes to construction plans can happen frequently due to weather, equipment availability and personnel issues. We try to anticipate construction activities a week in advance but changes may occur. Intermittent lane closures, with short delays, may not always be known in advance.
