Cortez Closed, Watch for Detours Cortez Road is closed on the west side of SR 179 so that the new intersection can be completed. It is currently anticipated that the intersection will reopen by the end of January. Cortez Roundabout Taking Shape Concrete forms are being installed and concrete is being poured to build the center island of the new roundabout at Cortez. When the Cortez roundabout is functional, the center raised median between Jack's Canyon and Cortez can be completed. Motorists will begin using the roundabouts for u-turns to access destinations that are across the median. The combination of roundabouts, medians, and turn lanes will greatly enhance the smooth flow of traffic. Paving Resumes After Delays by Heavy Rains It is anticiapted that paving activities in the Forest, Village, and south of the Village can resume this week, after heavy rains last week caused delays. The heavy rains also put the newly constructed storm drain system to use, and ADOT observed the system working well, with improved drainage conditions in areas that previously experienced flooding. Project 2 Construction Team Kicking off This Week The construction team for Project 2 in the City of Sedona is beginning to work through plans for that construction project, which is anticipated to begin in the spring. Watch these weekly updates for news on the Project 2 construction. Please note: Changes to construction plans can happen frequently due to weather, equipment availability and personnel issues. We try to anticipate construction activities a week in advance but changes may occur. Intermittent lane closures, with short delays, may not always be known in advance.
