What to Watch for Week of January 7
Work to Complete Cortez Intersection
After enduring delays associated with weather and utility work, construction crews are focused now on completing the intersection at Cortez, which will be the next roundabout to become functional in the Village. Cortez Road on the west side of SR 179 was closed on January 2 so the work can be completed as soon as possible. It is currently anticipated that the intersection will be complete and open before the end of January, however forecasts of heavy rains the weekend of January 5 may impact the schedule.
New Forest Alignment Nearing Completion
Paving crews are scheduled to be in the area early the week of January 7 to complete the paving of the new southbound alignment. It is important to remember that paving operations can be impacted by cold, wet weather. If the paving cannot take place early this week, it will be rescheduled as soon as possible.
Use Roundabout to Access Properties Across Raised Medians
The roundabout intersections on SR 179 were designed not only to ease intersection movements but also to provide u-turn access. Coupled with the raised medians, this provides a free flowing traffic situation, that minimizes left-turn crossing conflicts.
Please note that when needing to access a property on the opposite side of the road, if there is not a break in the median at that location, simply proceed to the next roundabout intersection, make a u-turn within the roundabout, and proceed to make an easy right-hand turn to your destination.
Please note: Changes to construction plans can happen frequently due to weather, equipment availability and personnel issues. We try to anticipate construction activities a week in advance but changes may occur. Intermittent lane closures, with short delays, may not always be known in advance.
